‘Booklungs, Scenes and Sketches’ Galeri Caernarfon
September 4th - October 16th 2021
The exhibition brings together new works on canvas and board and paintings on paper. Evolving from the feelings and imagery evoked by literature these works were mostly made during lockdown in 2020 and early 2021. During this time the essential connection between the notations that Carter Grist keeps whilst reading and her life in the studio became clear. Booklungs, Scenes and Sketches continues the sense of call and response between words and imagery.
An opening event is being held on the 18th September 2021, free tickets available here:

Lisa Carter Grist’s paintings reveal suggestions of scenes, scapes and emotions within their often apparently abstract surface. Referential allusions to imaginary landscapes, stages, window frames, figures and objects are acknowledged during the process of painting.
The forms and scenarios depicted are excavated from automatism and improvisation, response and transformation. Ideas, feelings and thoughts are often indistinct from one another and through painting she explores locating the connections in ideas and the shifting boundaries of imagination and the physical world.
“Reality and dreams are all mixed up like sea water and river water flowing together. I struggle to find the meaning behind it all but nothing makes any sense.”
